History of the Saint:

The Holy Great Martyr Marina was from the city of Antioch of Pisidia, and lost her mother as an infant. She was raised by a nursemaid in the Orthodox Faith. Under the emperor Diocletian (284-305), when she was fifteen years old, Saint Marina refused to marry Olybrius, the governor of the East Roman Diocese, betrothed by her father. She was angrily disowned by her father and surrendered to many tortures for her Christian Faith and her refusal to marry. Unyielding, Marina has brought thousands to confess the name of Christ. Her relics were located in Antioch until the year 908 and from there transferred to Italy and then to Greece, where they are now in Athens, in a church dedicated to the holy Virgin Martyr.
